“Maple” is directly influenced and inspired by Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag”. At first his influence is held back and made to keep its distance. Then in the second movement, there is endless and obsessive fascination with his brilliant small riffs and harmonies. Finally, the third movement all out steals.
